Jacob Samuel Snider is a composer, pianist, orchestrator, and producer whose expansive point of view is rooted in attention to curiosity, taking shape through piano improvisations, chamber ensembles, symphonic orchestras, and original scores for film and TV. Since making his debut as an artist at South by Southwest, he has been featured on the BBC and KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, while refining his singular voice as a composer for award-winning films that have premiered at festivals from Sundance to Tribeca, with his work on Common Ground (starring Laura Dern, Woody Harrelson, Jason Momoa, Donald Glover, and Rosario Dawson) earning him Oscar® consideration for Best Original Score at the 96th Academy Awards®.
Named Best New Artist by NPR-affiliate WXPN, his debut album, Carrier (featuring Armand Hirsch and produced by Tony Berg) was followed by the orchestral work One Cricket Song, which world premiered at the Mostly Modern Festival, and Seven Inventions, a collection of vignettes for solo piano. His forthcoming double album for chamber trio and improvised piano, Before I Had A Name, featuring sisters Rita Andrade (viola) and Laura Andrade (cello), is set for release in 2024.
Recent projects include Common Ground (Oscar® eligible: Best Original Score, Best Documentary Feature, 96th Academy Awards®, Winner of 2023 Tribeca Film Festival Human/Nature Award), and Training Wheels (2022 Sundance Film Festival). Other credits include Rough Draft With Reza Aslan, Starch, and Family Heirloom. As a producer, his arrangements can be heard on records from Maria Lane, Lexie Lowell, Eleni Paris, Dead Nettle, The Younger Brothers, and Friend From Before.
